Kaitlin Smith

Kaitlin Smith is a documentary filmmaker and Local 700 Assistant Editor. She founded SmithFilm, a production company, in 2014.

She produced Paratus 14:50, which focused on the U.S. Coast Guard’s lifesaving response following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. It aired on PBS and LinkTV in August of 2015, in honor of the 10th Anniversary. It debuted to positive reviews and was praised by the U.S. Coast Guard for getting their story right.

Her passion for storytelling started at a young age. Being a military daughter exposed her to different places and unique experiences, where she draws inspiration from. She has an immense passion for weather related storytelling, and it’s her goal to continue telling impactful and influential stories of human resilience during our darkest times.

When not working on documentaries, Smith is an assistant editor on ABC’s The
Bachelor
franchise. She is an active member of the Motion Picture Editor’s Guild, IATSE Local 700.

Smith is a graduate of the University of Alabama and is currently based in Los Angeles.
